Sydney Opera House

Intro to Sydney Opera House Edit Section - Sydney Performance : Sydney Opera House

One of the world's iconic structures, the Sydney Opera House was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon and completed in 1973. The distinctive roof shells were infamously hard to design, and were a major sticking point for the project until Utzon came up with the "spherical solution," by which he imagined all of the shells to be cut from a single sphere, like strange slices of an orange.

Today the House--which has multiple venues--puts on shows by the Sydney Theatre Company, the Sydney Symphony and, of course, Opera Australia. Also, all manner of international performances, from ballet companies to Kanye West. Prices vary depending on what you're seeing. For the opera tickets go for $55-220.
