Shopping in Shanghai
As the biggest and most modern city in China, shopping in Shanghai is quite different from the other big cities. Here you have more places to go, more opportunities to choose because of Shanghai is the "shopper's paradise". To do some shopping, the following places are highly recommended.


Xujiahui Commercial City
Located in southwest Shanghai, it is one of the famous marts in the city. Its development objective is to become the second Shinjuku (Japan) and Tsim Sha Tsui (Hongkong). The goods are multilevel in Xujiahui Commercial City. And the goods in Oriental Trade Mansion, Pacific Department Store CO., LTD and Huijin Department Store are superior to the other places. Liubai Industrial Company often sells the middlings. Huilian Trade Mansion is abundant in cheap goods and sells the off-price merchandise on weekends. Everyday, this commercial city is always jostling and bustling with shoppers. You can get there by subway, or by bus No, 43, 72, 44, 50etc.
 
Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is famous as the first shopping street in China and the busiest shopping centre in Shanghai. It has always been the cradle of fashion merchandise of China, the modern commerce shop window and arena. Here, business and related industry are highly concentrated. There is a galaxy of fine goods in the trade mansions, and which are real a feast for the eyes. The famous, superfine, excellent and pioneering products from home or abroad are not less than hundreds of thousands. In Nanjing Road, there are not only large-scale department stores (such as Zhongbai Company, Hualian Department Store etc.) but also many special shops. It is a must for those who visit Shanghai.   

According to statistics, among the 80% visitors who have visited Shanghai left their footmarks in Nanjing Road. Normally, the every-day passenger flow volume is more than 0.8 million, in holidays reaches 1million to 1.2 million. The passengers from the other parts of the country and abroad usually account for over 70%.
  
The night piece of Nanjing Road is particularly enthralling. The neon on both sides of the Road is a beautiful landscape. They make a gorgeous color lights display in here, and make here become a sleepless street. The dazzling lights here stand comparison with any section in Tokyo, Hongkong and Bankok. "He who does not visit Nanjing Road, is not a true man to go to Shanghai", so don't forget to hand around in Nanjing Road when you arrive in Shanghai.

The constructions on both sides of the Huaihai Road are modern and lordly and the upholsteries of the stores are noble and elegant.
Shopping Street on Huaihai Road
Go and see how many up-market goods are there in the department stores on Huaihai Road. This Road is as famous as Nanjing Road for its tourist and shopping street. And if Nanjing Road stands for Shanghai, then Huaihai Road displays the taste, the style and fashion of Shanghai. It boasts some 400 stores and shops. The exterior appearance and interior layout of buildings demonstrate a strong cultural flavor of a city, selling exquisite goods in the world.
   
On the western section of Huaihai Road, there are some human landscapes, such as the former residence of Dr Sun yat-sen (first president of the Republic of China), the Old Home of Song qing-ling (Sun yat-sen’s wife).Walking on the Huaihai Road, you can feel the reaped happy, even though buy nothing. If you scan widely, a flowing and modern picture will appear in front of your eyes: the well- behavior, well-dressed and high-spirited men and women; the trade mansions with different architectural styles and the chenar trees on both sides of the road, the sculptures, the small sights and parks, which form a delightful contrast on this road. 

Yu Garden Tourist Trade City
Yu Garden Tourist Trade City is next to Yu Garden and Town God's Temple and is famous for small commodities. The garden-like buildings in this city are of the Ming and Qing dynasties in the southern area of the Yangtze River. They have flying upturned eaves and carved beams and painted columns, demonstrating a strong national flavor. In the interior buildings are modern fancy mall. The ancient exterior and the foreign flavor interior of the buildings make a good harmony with the original landscapes in the city. It is a center of shopping, tourism, cultural sites, food and amusement. Here is also a kingdom of small commodities, many shops sell shanghai handicraft articles, curios, jade wares, sparkling gold or silver jewelry, bottle caps and silk cords or what have you.


Curios market on Dong Tai Road
It is well known that Dong Tai Road is a famous curios market in China for the curios circles. In the market, many antiques are sold, such as porcelains, jade wares, bronze wares, wood wares, calligraphies and paintings, the four treasures of the study(i.e. writing brush, ink stick, ink slab, paper), embroidery tools, dyeing tools etc. too numerous to mention one by one. In recent years, many products of the Cultural Revolution Period(1966-1976)have appeared in this curios market. With the abundant and long-historic curios, the Curios Market on Dong Tai Road has caught many visitors’ eyes from home or abroad and been popular with the gentlemen of virtu. It has a good influence upon the curios market in China or the rest of the countries.
