Intro to Sipadan Island of Sabah, a Diver's...
Sipadan Island, located at the off coast of East Malaysia promises an unforgettable underwater experience. Dubbed by some as the divers’ paradise, the name really does speak for itself.
With a wide-ranging species about 3000 aquatic life and hundreds of dreamy corals its undersea experience is not to be missed. Its location at the heart of the Indo- Pacific Ocean is the reason for the vast marine life. Plus, the all year round sunny climate and humid weather Malaysia has to offer made this island is available for all year long. Rainy seasons will be at the end of the year, but this is not a huge matter.
As much as nine pristine diving spots are localized in this island. The names given suggest the picturesque view underwater.
Hanging Garden, Barracuda Point, White-tip Avenue, Coral Garden and Turtle Patch are amongst the names that have been brought up by the divers.
The most anticipated diving spot is Barracuda Point, where the divers get to experience swimming with a large school of barracudas.
Since this island has been declared as a protected land, Malaysian government has taken preventive steps to preserve its ecosystem. Only 120 divers are allowed daily, and the number of divers is divided evenly among 12 resorts in Mabul and Kapalai. The types of accommodations offered are bungalows and duplexes, provided with air conditioning, ceiling fans, private balconies with an amazing view of the sea, satellite tv, promising hot/cold showers, fly screens and mini bars. Electricity is supplied 24-hours, thus there will be no fear of blackouts. Divers who are impatient to get their hands on experiencing the underwater paradise will have ferries transporting them to the diving spots daily.
Transactions will be carried out in Ringgit Malaysia which is the Malaysian currency. Visitors are advised to change money in money changers which is available at airports and Semporna before coming to the island. The resorts did not provide ATM machines, but credit cards such as VISA and MasterCard are accepted to speed up trades. For travelers who are seeking for relief from the hot sun and the view of the sea, the journey from Semporna to Sakau Rainforest Lodge takes only four hours via land transportation. Here the visitors are pledged to untouched greenery and fresh breaths of air. A river cruise is provided along the Kinabatangan River to offer an experience with the primates, observing them swaying from branch to brach. It is most certainly unforgettable!.
