El Bandido Doblemente Armado

Intro to El Bandido Doblemente Armado Edit Section - Madrid Cafes and Bakeries : El Bandido Doblemente Armado

Owned by favorite Madrid author Soledad Puértolas, cafe-bookstore El Bandido Doblemente Armado ("The Double-Gunned Bandit") takes its name from Puértolas' prize-winning first novel.  Run by her son (and author in his own right) Diego Pita, El Bandido is the favorite watering hole for Madrid's literati.  The great selection of books is mostly in Spanish, but the eclectic music selection and conversation alike are decidedly multilingual--as is the very cool staff.  Besides books, beers and espresso, El Bandido also plays host to a constant stream of readings, photography and painting exhibitions, "videopoemas" (experimental films), and monthly Tarot and I-Ching readings, all free of charge.  (C. Apodaca, 3.  Metro: Bilbao/Tribunal. www.elbandidodoblementearmado.com, 915.221.051.  Open M, Tu, W 5pm-1am and Th, F, Sa until 2am.  Closed Sundays.  Happy hour weekdays 11pm-midnight, 2 for 1 on beer and wine.)
