Things To See and Do:

London’s Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-off Broadway

Intro to London’s Broadway, Off-Broadway,... Edit Section - London Things To See and Do : London’s Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-off Broadway

Since Shakespeare penned his first “ado,” theatre has provided a nearly mandatory recreational event for locals and tourists alike.  Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre still presents a daily crew of Elizabethan costume-clad Romeos and Hamlets, but tales of yore are only a small fraction of what London’s theatre scene has to offer today.  Modern musicals and other commercial productions – i.e. the ones you’ve probably heard of – are almost always shown in the West End, the area around Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, and Covent Garden.  The Royal National Theatre, a subsidized venue, puts on most of the uncharted (and often better) plays, and offers inordinately discounted same-day-purchase tickets.  The Fringe is London’s third tier of theatre repertoire and refers to smaller productions in pub theatres and venues in and around London.  For complete theatre listings and tips on purchasing tickets, visit www.londontheatre.co.uk.
