The UC Davis Arboretum is a huge public park that flanks Putah Creek near campus. It was established in 1936 and, along with being a very pleasant place to spend a spring afternoon, symbolizes Davis's commitment to the outdoors. There are numerous bike and foot trails that wind through the arboretum along which you can check out the 4,000 species of plants that grow in the park, and there is also, of course, plenty of grassy picnic space.
