Things To See and Do:

J. Paul Getty Center

Intro to J. Paul Getty Center Edit Section - Los Angeles Things To See and Do : J. Paul Getty Center

One of Los Angeles’s true architectural masterpieces also doubles as an impressive museum. The modernist J. Paul Getty Center, designed by architect Richard Meier and constructed from 16,000 tons of beige travertine stone, sits on a hilltop in the Santa Monica Mountains. From this vantage point, surrounded by the warm, tranquil architecture, visitors can look out on the Pacific Ocean, the San Gabriel Mountains, or the vast lattice of L.A. streets. The museum itself isn’t bad either. There are landscapes by the Brueghels, Renaissance frescoes by Cranach and others, and ancient sculpture works.
