Point Reyes National Seashore

Intro to Point Reyes National Seashore Edit Section - Point Reyes Station Natural Site : Point Reyes National Seashore

Just 35 miles north of San Francisco, this pristine and isolated spot can be a seriously overdue breath of fresh air. If you're coming from San Francisco, the drive along Highway 1 to Point Reyes Station feels a little like your amusement park twirl-a-hurl but the scenery, more promising around every corner, is enough to stay strong till the end.

You can get a camping permit at the Bear Valley Visitor center. The Wildcat Campground trailhead is one of several starting points for overnight, backpacking campers. The six mile hike is just that--a hike--but the scenery is worth it. Groves of bishop pines, Indian paintbrush, huckleberry bushes, and morning glories grace the surrounding hills, and open up intermittently to stunning views of lakes, cliffs, and the blue Pacific. Around mile five, you’re offered a steep path leading down to the beach and a huge waterfall. Sunsets here can be phenomenal. The area is incredibly gorgeous and wild, it's hard to believe such a spot exists so close to San Francisco.
