This enormous outdoor park was in part build for the Panama-California Exposition in 1915 and much of the lovely landscaping is still there and many of the beautiful buildings now hold museums. You can, among other things, admire master paintings in San Diego Museum of Art, enjoy Russian religious art at Timken Museum of Art or see contemporary photography at the Museum of Photographic Arts. There is also a botanical garden that is free and open to the public.
