This is the site of the original downtown, located near the presidio about five miles from today’s downtown. The buildings have either been rebuilt or restored and now house gift shops, museums and restaurants. Most of them have a certain western movie set feel to them. There is, however, an entire estate that has been preserved and moved here from another location, that can give you an idea of what well-off people’s homes looked like here in the 1800s.
