Intro to Alcatraz
Alcatraz, or “The Rock,” is a spooky and beautiful San Francisco landmark. In the middle of the Bay one truly feels the isolation that made this island an effective super-prison, holding high-profile troublemakers like Al Capone. Exhibits detail Alcatraz’s history, first as a military fort, and then, from the30s to the 60s, as a prison. Special attention is also paid to Native American prisoners and the remarkable wildlife that has accidentally sprouted on the originally barren rock.
