Venetian Pool

Intro to Venetian Pool Edit Section - Miami Monuments and Historical Sites : Venetian Pool

Probably the only swimming pool to be included in the National Register of Historic Places, the Venetian Pool is nevertheless deserving of the honor. In its heyday, this Venice-inspired free-form pool had gondolas, Esther Williams and Johnny Weissmuller floating in its fresh spring water. The 800,000 gallons of water are today recycled through an advanced system, but it still originates from the springs underneath the old limestone quarry where the stone used to build Coral Gables was once harvested. A complete historical renovation was made in 1989, assuring that many more get to enjoy the beauty of this pool. It is often drained and closed in the summer, so be sure to check before going.
