Intro to Vizcaya Museum & Gardens
Villa Vizcaya, a Renaissance-era estate with extensive gardens right on Biscayne Bay was built between 1914 and 1916 to serve as a vacation home for industrialist James Deering. Now a museum, it is open to the public. Taking one of the guided tours is highly recommended if you want to get a deeper insight in what life was like here. The lavishly decorated rooms feel about as far from Miami as one can get, more like a European palazzo.
