Bucharest Hostel : Vila 11

Quiet, traditional family home snuggled in a 1920's villa, 200m from the Gara de Nord. We offer our guests an alternative to impersonal, high tech hotels. We have wood floors, tapestries and wrought iron; hot tea, cookies and an old piano; pancakes, backgammon and old books.
?Vila 11? is home to our family and we welcome you as our guest. We are a pleasant walk of 15 minutes from the city centre.

Being a low tech environment this is a good place to tune out the world. Turn off the phone, unplug the internet. Pick up a conversation, a good book, a chess game or take a chance to tickle our piano.

Rooms are decorated with family treasures and vary as a result. Not one is the same as another but all are comfortable and cosy. All bathrooms have been recently renovated.

For all guests there is included a cooked breakfast of golden pancakes, fruit, local cheeses and homemade jam with fresh bread. Romania is renowned for her fresh and flavourful unmodified seasonal fruits. The coffee room is open 24 hours and guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary refreshment of tea or coffee and a relaxed conversation.

Please note that our family keeps a Sabbath from Friday sunset to sunset on Saturday.

Check out is 13:00 p.m. but you can store luggage if you have a late train.

The children have arranged a Bicycle rental service for the summer at 15 Euro/day. Ask for Ecaterina and she will be happy to help you.

As Canadians, Stefan and I are English and Romanian speakers, Stefan is fluent in French and manages in German and Italian. We are available to help with travel advice and insights.

If arriving by train at Gara de Nord: Leave the station by the Golescu street exit (to the right with the tracks behind you) Cross the street and turn left toward the traffic lights, turn right into in the driveway before the bus stop. In the corner of the apartment buildings is a passage which leads to our street. We are the second house after the Institute on the left hand side. Ring the doorbell. See yah soon! Please do not ring until after 8:30am. Thank you!

Coming by car or taxi: Go to Gara de Nord at Strada Golescu and Strada Witting. Take Witting past the PETROM petrol staion to the first street on the right Strada Balacescu. Go to the T junction with Strada Vespasian. Turn right . Take the first street right into Strada Institutul Medico Militar. We are the second house on the right at Nr. 11.
If you are arriving very late or early in the morning please be patient while I find my dressing gown and some slippers. We are home but probably in bed so don't hurry away.
