Formerly the choir boys’ school for the Cathedral, it’s in London’s business area, which is both safer and quieter than many city parts. With plenty of public transport nearby, internet access and lockers, it makes a practical base for sightseers.

Getting there:

At Blackfriars Underground, turn right onto Queen Victoria Street and take second left into St Andrews Hill. Carter Lane is at the top and the hostel is on the right.
