HI Sacramento

Hostel Info for HI Sacramento

HI-Sacramento provides a rare opportunity to relax in the comfortable elegance of a beautifully restored 19th century Victorian mansion.
Historians know HI-Sacramento as the Llewellyn Williams Mansion, but guests know it as one of California's best travel deals and America’s most unique hostel.

The 1885 mansion brings Sacramento's Gold Rush past to life while providing all of the modern-day comforts that travelers need. The main floor features lavish sitting rooms, stained glass skylights, elegantly carved stairways and chandeliers. Practical touches include a fully equipped kitchen, game room, on-site laundry and bike storage.

The hostel is one of many historic buildings that line the city’s pedestrian-friendly streets. HI-Sacramento’s eclectic Italianate-Stick Style architecture adds a whimsical touch to its neighborhood – an expanse of public space that includes a spectacular 12-block park, the majestically restored State Capitol building featuring Renaissance revival architecture and the Alfred Eichler-designed Tower Bridge.

Sacramento became a popular destination in 1848 when James Marshall discovered gold at Sutter's Mill and the words "Gold Country" tempted people from around the world. Sacramento is once again becoming a popular destination because of its reputation as a refreshing travel alternative to San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego.

Reserve a bed or private room at HI-Sacramento and spend a night in the only remaining mansion from Merchant’s Row. With the money you save by staying with us, you will experience more of Sacramento’s rich landscape, easygoing atmosphere and top-quality attractions.
