The green line is the 16th Street Mall. There is a free bus shuttle, called the Mall Ride, that runs from the Union Train station (Amtrak) to Civic Center station (Broadway).
The blue line represents the streets that have to be traversed by foot.

-From the Amtrak train station
Exit the train station on the rear side (platform 9), and take the RTD Free Mall Ride. This is a free bus shuttle, that runs every 5-10 minutes from one end of the 16th Street Mall to the other (highlighted green on map). Remain on the shuttle until the end of the line, called Civic Center Station. You are now on 16th and Broadway, and 16th Street has become Sixteenth Avenue. Walk 6 blocks on Sixteenth Avenue until Washington Street.
-From the Greyhound Bus Terminal
Exit the bus terminal on 19th Street, cross the street and walk three blocks along Curtis or Arapahoe Street to 16th Street. Go to the opposite side of the street, and take the free bus shuttle to Civic Center Station.
-From Civic Center Station, walk 6 blocks East on Sixteenth Avenue to Washington Street.
-From the Airport, Inside the main terminal, locate the RTD ticket counter (RTD is the local bus company), and purchase a one-way 'skyRide AF' ticket to Market Street station in Denver ($8.00). If you ask for a transfer upon boarding the bus, you can catch a connecting bus at Market Street station that will take you to 17th + Pearl St. (one block North of the hostel).
To board the Route 12 bus, exit the Market Street station on 17th Street, and look for the bus stop for Route 12. Board the Southbound Route 12 bus, hand the driver your transfer ticket and exit at 17th and Pearl streets (about 1.5 miles or 9 minutes from Market Street station).

If you don't mind walking a few more blocks, taking the free shuttle to the other end of 16th Street (Civic Center Station) and walking the remaing six blocks is usually faster than waiting for the number 6 bus to arrive. To do this, exit the bus station on 16th Street, and take the free shuttle departing from underneath the 'tent' outside the terminal.
