Intro to The Plaza Hotel
The Plaza Hotel is one of New York's most famous hotels. Designed in a French Renaissance château style, it opened in 1907. It's housed innermerable luminaries and decision-makers and has starred in movies from North by Northwest to Home Alone: 2.
The Plaza has changed hands a number of times in the past decades. Trump owned it in the '80s, sold it to a Saudi prince, and now it belongs to Manhattan developer Elad Properties. They bought it for $675 million. It's currently closed for renovations but will open in 2007 with 282 hotel rooms and some condos.
