Introduction
July, 2005 to August, 2005
Every trip I have taken throughout my lucky life was in preparation for last year's journey to the village of Maipa, in the Mekeo region of Papua New Guinea. Almost a year later, I am still emotionally attached to the people I met. I really have no desire to get on another airplane because I do not want anything to muddle my memories of this extraordinary trip.
The heart of this trip was not a tourist destination, however, Papua New Guinea has other options. We visited Madang on the Bismark Sea. I cannot suggest being a tourist in Port Moresby. The city has a rough reputation, and you need to stay with caution.
This country is somewhat undiscovered. The scuba diving is exquisite. There are tourist packages for hiking and visiting villages. Most of the photos you see of Papua New Guinea are taken in the Highlands. I did not visit that area, but hope to return someday.
