10 Days in Spain - July 11

Salutations from Spain

I'm here!  The plane ride was looong....  9 hrs to Amsterdam, then a 3 hr layover and another 2 hr flight to Madrid.  Amsterdam was kinda nervewracking, I realized it was the first time in my life that I was in a place whrre I didn't speak the language.  But they had signs and everything in english, so no big deal.  My legs and feet are still sore from the walk, my ankles feel swolle and achy.

After Jen met me at the airport we dropped my stuff off at our AWSOME hostel, then walked around a bit which was kinda nice after being cramped in a plane for so long.  I just realized it's almost 10pm here, I've made it up all day hopefully I don't start waking up right before I try to go to bed (it's currently 12pm in cali, I think).  My spanish is rusty, but Jen's been kinda taking over in communications so far.  I hope toget into the swing of things pretty soon.  English is quite common here, which helps me feel comfortable.

Today is Jen;s 22nd bday.  Unfortunately I think I'll need an early night tonight, but we may go out for a drink just to celebrate.  We'll have proper celebrations later, though, of course.  Well, people are waiting to use the internethere at the hostel so I uess I shouldn't take up too much time.  This hostel is amazing, very high tech.  We have wrist bands that let us into the building, and into our own private, free lockers.  Very cool.  And it has this very very groovy courtyard in the middle with stained glass cieling.

I like being surrounded by Spanish.  It's such a lovely sound.
