La Alhambra
Jen and I decided to not go out last night, as we were gonna be waking up way early to get to the Alhambra this morning. So instead we went back to Kasbah, the tea house where we'd been that afternoon, and had dinner as we watched a belly dancer show. It was great, there was ayoung boy with down's syndrome there and the dancer invited him up and he was shaking his hips like apro and having a ball. It was very cute.
We then got up around 6:30 this morning, got dressed and went accross the street for croissants and café con leche for breakfast. Then we caught a bus that took us up the hill to La Alhambra. After a short wait in line we bought our tickets, along with tickets to a flamenco show that will be happening theretonight that our hostel guide told us about. The Alhambra was amazing.... so breathtaking. It's this HUGE castle built by the Arabs when they controlled this area of Spain (my Lonely Planet guide has a better recounting of the history but I can't remember it right now). Everything was so intricately detailed, all the walls carved with all these designs andletters... incredibly. So gorgeous. The Generalife (architect's gardens) were so beautiful. I think I took about 100 pictures while we were there!
Thankfully we got there early as it was still cool then, by noon it was getting hot again. We had to pull out our abanicos (fans) to help cool us off. Then we had an incredibly yummy lunch at a restaurant nearby, and then walked down the hill back here to the internet cafe we found yesterday. We're gonna take a rest in our room I think, then we'll go out for an early dinner around 7:30 (dinner here is usually around 9 ot 10) so we had head overto the flamenco show by 9 or so. I'm really excited about it, this group of dancers is supposed to be phenomenal, and the dances should be aseries that tell a story I think. Then we will definitely go out tonight, possibly to this club up in the Albayzin area where someof the buildings and clubs apparentlygo down into caves.
I'm totally falling in love with Granada.
