Things I learned in Spain
1. They LOVE their pork. I think we ate some sort of pig meat (pork chops, pork loin, ham, bacon, etc etc etc) every day. Someone pointed out that it may have been their own way of trying to expell the Jews...
2. The Spanish seem to be really into the whole "save the planet, save the trees" thing. Many bathrooms had motion-sensor lights, or simply ones where you opushed a button to keep it on for a certain amount of time. This was fine for energy saving strategies, but it meant that on at least 1 occasion the bathroom light turned off on me while still sitting on the pot...
Oh, and absolutely NO paper towels for drying your hands. And often no toilet paper, either. NOTE: always carry some napkins or tissues in your purse when in Spain.
3. Tapas are awesome.
4. I actually like baked brie. Who knew?!? It's really yummy spread on slices of bread with a bit of jam.
5. I also love the euro system for money. Each bill denomination (5, 10, 20, 50, etc) is a different size and different color-- no more mistaking that $20 for a $10 or a $5.
6. The Euro-Mullet is apparently a uni-sex hair style option.
7. That thing everyone said about how Spain is a great place to shop for bags and shoes? TOTALLY true.
8. Everyone should sit outside in little sidewalk cafe's more often. Just find yourself a nice shady spot and your fan and you'll be fine even on a hot summer day.
9. Sangria is apparently a drink usually drank only by tourists. I don't care, it's still yummy. Same thing for Tinto de Verano (lime/orange soda mixed with red wine-- sounds wierd, I know, but it's quite good).
10. Bra straps are a fashion accessory. Same with your underwear. I often saw either sticking out of someone's clothes, and they'd be perfectly coordinated with the rest of the gal's outfit.
