NYC - April 9

day 1

Zach went back to the airport this morning to pick up our bags, so I did a bit of exploring on my own.  I walked from our hotel (31st and 5th) up to Central Park and walked around Central Park a bit.  It was a beautiful day today, a bit cold but beautiful still, and there were tons of families out and that was a really nice feeling.  Saw 2 boys walking with their dad that were both wearing superman capes.  Very cute.  I then started walking back down south and stopped at Gap (got some $40 jeans) and H&M (got a ton of jewelry).

I met Zach at Rockefeller Center and we had lunch at the cafe, watching people on the skating rink through the glass wall.  The down side of an outdoor skating rink in sunny weather is there will be puddles of water around, and we saw at least one girl fall on her ass and get all wet.

Oh, and while I was at Central Park I stopped by the Zootique (gift shop for the zoo) and found items made from this.  Absolutely hillarious.  They had notebooks and journals and little trinket boxes.  I got a set of 2 boxes with peweter elephant heads on them that I might give to the school when we get back.  I think the kids would get a kick out of stuff made from recycled elephant poop.

The bad news:  I'm sick.  I started feeling it on the plane yesterday, and I think the sore throat from earlier this week was also part of it.  I now have a mild cough and a very stuffy nose.  I've been medicating like mad with dayquill.  I felt pretty good this morning, but the afternoon has been touch and go.  I think we're gonna go see Ground 0 in a bit and then meet up with some friends of Zach's from college for dinner.  We'll see how things go.
