Vegas Recap, pt 1I arrived in Vegas at 10pm on thursday. I got my luggage, took the shuttle to our hotel (Treasure Island), checked in, etc. As I waited for Danyelle to get in, I walked around the lobby downstairs and eventually sat down to get something to eat. Danyelle met up with me (around midnight?) as I was eating, then we went upstrairs and got ready to go out.
We didn't leave our hotel room till almost 2am. This is Vegas, y'all.
We went to Club Rio as we had heard that there was good salsa dancing there. When we got there, the place was PACKED... and it was huge! I got the sense that there were actually mostly locals there (or a lot of them), and almost everyone in there was latin. Every time Danyelle and I stepped onto the dance floor, we'd have our hand grabbed by someone within a minute or 2 and be dancing. Not many cute guys, but the dancing was ok. We had our drinks paid for, which was sweet. The crowds started thinning out eventually, and we headed back to our hotel aropund 4-ish I think, got to bed around 5am (which for Danyelle was 7am, and she'd been up for about 24 hrs).
We woke up Friday around 11am/noon-ish, got dressed, and went to the mall accross the way to look for a place to eat. We wound up grabbing some Wendy's, then headed out to find Madame Tussaud's house of wax. It took us a little while, but we made it... and it was awesome! lol We had SO MUCH FUN looking at all the wax figures, and taking pictures. I can't wait to see Danyelle's pictures, she took a bunch with her camera as well. Afterwards we made our way to the Forum Shops by Caesar's Palace and walked around a bit, and got one of those HUGE 48oz margaritas we kept seeing everyone walking around with. It tripped me out that you can walk around in public with alcohol in Vegas... took a bit to get used to. At one point we were at a toy store holding our gigantor drinks and I was like "Um, is this wrong?" hah. We didn't finish the drinks all the way (maybe about 1/3 or 1/4 was left over), and they sat in our hotel room for the rest of the weekend.
We'd made reservations to eat at a fancy steak & seafood restaurant at the Mirage, so we went back to our room and got all dressed up and went to dinner, which was very yummy and insanely expensive. But it was definitely a justified splurge. After dinner went to see LOVE by Cirque du Soleil. Danyelle is a HUGE Beatles fan, and she's been looking forward to this show for weeks. It was my first time to see a Cirque performance... and I was blown away. It was amazing. I can't even begin to describe. I had a huge smile plastered on my face for most of the show, and just kept thinking "This is so cool!!!" over and over again. It was just... amazing. Danyelle said she almost cried, as it was just how The Beatles would have wanted the show to be like.
After the show we went back to our rooms and changed out of our fancy dresses and into outfits for going out. Danyelle had heard that Tryst (at the Wynn) was a good place to go, so we headed out there. It was kinda confusing trying to find the club, and there seemed to be no real line, just a rope and people bunched up around it. So I went to one of the bouncers and asked "What do we need to do to get into Tryst?" and he said "Is it just you and you friend?" I said yeah, and he just let us walk in. Awesome. The club was so swank, had a good sized dance floor, and behind it the walls opened up to a big waterfall. We danced, we met all sorts of people, talked to a crazy and funny Australian and some cute New Yorker boys, Danyelle took a picture with Antonio Sabatto Jr, and we also spotted Dave Navarro. In short, it was an awesome night. Lots of fun. And, again, we got to bed around 5am or so.
Vegas Recap, pt 2Saturday we had breakfast at one of the hotel restaurants, then lounged outside by the pool for a bit. We had gorgeous weather the whole time, sunny and mid-70's, so it was pretty perfect. Then we got dressed and went to the Tropicana to see the Bodies exhibit. Dany had been really excited about this, and I was too, but I was also afraid of it making me queasy or just freaking me out. It turned out to be really, really cool. I kept thinking how it'd be such a great field trip for a biology class. The bodies didn't really look real, though there were a couple things that I looked at them and my stomach turned a bit. But it was just amazing to see what so many of our organs look like (the human brain is surprisingly tiny), how they fit together inside your body, how mucles and bones are attached, etc etc etc. They even had a room with fetuses (from miscarriages), and it was amazing to see this tiny, 8wk old fetus, that already has all of its organs and body parts formed. It's barely an inch long, yet has a head, hands, legs, toes, fingers, etc. It's one thing to read about it in a book, or see pictures... but to see the real thing was incredible. And the room showcasing the circulatory system was just amazing.... Anyway, it was definitely worth seeing.
We were starting to feel a bit worn out by then, so after doing a bit of shopping we opted for a low-key dinner of pizza at New York New York. On our way back to the hotel we stopped by the MGM Grand to check out the lions, who were lounging on top of the glass corridor so they were literally just a few feet above our heads. Very cool. At the room, we rested and watched some of Kate & Leopold on tv, then started to get ready to go out around 10 or 11.
We decided to go to Caesar's Palace to club Pure. We wound up hgaving to wait in line for quite a while, but the gaggle of Brittish women behind us were totally cracking us up the whole time, so it passed kinda quickly. We also wound up not having to pay the $40 cover, as were were in the "girls only" line. The club was CRAZY inside-- the dance floor was packed! We danced out there for a while, ran into a group that we'd seen the night before at Tryst, then sought out the less-crowded bar for a drink and wound up chilling out there for the rest of the night, still dancing but actually had room. We also got to talking to this group of 4 Canadian guys. Ok, so we actually only talked to 1 of them really, his friends were all kinda standoff-ish. But that one guy, was hillarious!! I just remember laughing hysterically all night long. I don't even know what time we got to bed that night, but I know Danyelle checked the time while we were still at the club and it was 4am so it must've been 5am or later. I somehow managed to remember to set my alarm clock for the next morning so we could pack and check out by noon.
Sunday... was rough. We woke up at 10am, packed, and went downstairs to check out. We left our bags with the bell hop, and then went to the breakfast buffet at the Mirage. We were so tired. After 3 nights of dancing, little sleep, walking/dancing on heels, etc, our feet were beaten up, our bodies were tires, our muscles sore, and my stomach was not entirely happy with me. I felt like I was moving in slow motion. After breakfast we walked around a bit, went to the Paris and to the top of the Eiffel tower (where we met a very nice Brazilian guy who'd just gotten into town for a work conference), and then it was pretty much timne for me to get to the airport.
Poor Danyelle's flight wasn't till 11pm that night, but as I was leaving she met this guy at the hotel, and wound up hanging out with him and his friends the rest of the day so that worked out. I'm still recuperating, my limbs feel heavy and without any energy. And I'm just now getting my mindset switched back to Regular Life. It was a truly amazing weekend, and so much fun, and by sunday it was time to come home and get some rest. I'm so glad we did this. Realistically, I'm not sure when might be the next time we can pull off a trip like this, and it was so cool to get to spend time together, just the 2 of us, partying it up and going crazy. Danyelle is such a great friend, and we've been friends for something like 12 years, and there's just no one else quite like her. I'm glad to have gone, I'm glad to be back. What a trip. |
