European Fun - The Beginning of the End

The Beginning of the End 2006-08-06

We ended our trip the same way we began it- with a ridiculously short stop in a new city. This time it would be Venice-for less than 24 hours.

I am not sure why but I didn't have very high expectations of Venice. Venice as it turns out is actually a pretty awsome place. It is a place of endless alleys, a place where you continually get more and more lost, and then find that you somehow got to exactly where you intended... stumbling upon an array of unique little shops along the way, which you will probably never find again... especially if you want to find it.

Venice is a city with no cars and not motorized transportation other than ferries. Its small alley ways of a street are too tiny for vehicles. It is a walking town- my favorite type.

The central Marco Polo Plaza area is flooded with tourists and ridiculous prices (9 euro for a cappuccino + 5 euro cover charge to sit). The shops are more generic selling less creative merchandise.

The next 28 hours will be spent travelling home: flight to London, night in the airport, followed by a 11 hour flight to Las Vegas, then after a few hours layover a final flight to San Jose and finally a drive over the hill to Santa Cruz.

Bon Voyage!
