Back in Cairo, and luggage fiasco
We returned to Cairo from Yerevan, again by way of Moscow. We were looking forward to another full day in Cairo, seeing some more sights there, but that's not what Aeroflot had in mind for us. We landed in Cairo at about 2 am, and I got that sinking feeling you get when you notice there are no other passengers still waiting for their luggage at your belt. Not a minute later and an agent came up to us with a printout that basically said our bags were still in Moscow. Next flight from Moscow to Cairo, believe it or not, would be in 48 hours. That's too bad, cuz we were going to be in Nairobi by then. There goes our nice leisurely day in Cairo. We opened a lost luggage claim, and headed for a cheap airport hotel to catch a few hours sleep before starting the ordeal of retrieving our bags. The long story short: we got our bags routed direct to Nairobi by dealing directly with Aeroflot. The professional lost-baggage people in Cairo had no clue: they told us our bags were still in Cairo, when in fact they never even went to Cairo, but came via a different route and were already on the ground in Nairobi. This was a bit stressful (two companies telling us two different stories about the whereabouts of our luggage) but we got through it, having learned that phoning Cairo from Nairobi is not easy! Skype to the rescue again.
We're now set for our Safari tomorrow morning and can't wait!
