Day 7, Boxing Day: Also known as Everything is Still Closed Day. We mostly hang out at home, although we do go to an English pub, several of which we will end up visiting during our time in London, and all of which I like. My favorite, is one called the Angelic in the Islington neighborhood, right close to the Angel tube stop, appropriately enough. This is where my brother lives (legally, as a student, I told you to stop reading this already). The upstairs is really nice, great fireplace, chilled out couches, and a variety of beers. Actually if I were in charge of British tourism I would definitely put forth Britain: A Variety of Beers as a possible motto. In Spain and Italy, where I’ve been, your options are definitely limited, beerwise. In Spain you must drink Heineken or one of the several brands of cervezas nacionales that are also owned by Heineken and taste exactly the same, and in Italy you drink curdled goat’s milk from old Budweiser bottles. That last part, in the strictest sense, is not true. (That’s a spicy meatball!) So anyway, definitely psyched about British beer variety, and about the spacious lowkey British pub style I saw in general. Check out the Angelic if you get the chance, and head upstairs. |
