Heading North
7:30am We are on the train, headed north... From this train I can see scenes from Baraka, and scenes from my own Baraka. I find myself encoutering memories of Morocco I had forgotten... because there are many similar things here, and feelings, and it brings a part of me back there. But this time I can look and think on it with fondness. I can find it familiar, an old part of myself, for there is now a part of me always and forever tied to that Morocco... And now a part of me shall be here in Thailand too. It feels so natural to be here, so easy, compared to what you think it might be. Perhaps this is because everything has just gotten a lot harder, so travelling in a foreign country is no different. This is easier than Morocco though because I am not
trying
to fit in... I have fully accepted my status as outsider and so I have no struggle trying to prove myself here, I can just BE. ~ 3pm There is time for lots to happen in a day when you begin it around 4am... (our train left at 6am) So Lopburi was awesome... a monkey town! Monekys everywhere. And ruins. I think it must be that ruins seems so magical because they leave so much for the imagination, such a glorious canvas. I would have liked to have a picnic. Everything is still so cheap here. We are riding the train today so the Thai countryside is whirring by outside the window. Abe says much of it reminds him of Louisiana - the smells of burning things in the air, the flatness (in this part) the light and weather, humidity... The buddhist aspect is so interesting - random monks in orange robes everywhere and buddhist statues, out the window, some small, some HUGE, like, several stories tall. And more wats and more wats along the road. Aren't humans funny with their religions obsessions? So cool to stop off a train and right across the road very ancient ruins, and just down the road a huge troop of wild monkeys, and around the corner an idilic thai restaurant with the owners greeting you as if they'd been excpecting you... I feel like it is an accomplishment that we haven't gotten sick yet or really run into any trouble at all. Then again, it's only been a day and half... feels like so much already. I know the details of what when where will quickly begin to fade together, and especailly days likes this in which we will be visiting three different towns! ...
