not really....... i just figured that would get everyones attention... : )
on a similar note i had a thai woman comment that i looked like brad
pit and then proceed to take several pictures of me..... that was
funny...
we left chang mai and went north, almost to the border of laos, to a
place called pai. the bus was the most amusingly cramped bus i have
ever been in... abe and i ended up in the 3rd class seats with NO leg
room at all.... we both had to sit at an angle and one of us half off
the seat to "fit". the seat in front of us was probably 1 foot away..
it was really rediculously funny in a really cramped uncomfortable
way..
we arrived at our bugalows about 3-4 hours later. they are bamboo
bungalows and are probably the most comfortable beds i have stayed in
since we have been in thailand.... the guy who runs the place is
really a kool guy.. he is very nice and laid back.. he also makes
excelent pad thai... ian and whitney and ryan are staying at the same
place but when we said goodbye in chang mai it very much was
goodbye.... we havent hardly seen them.. i am ok with that though as i
am doing my best to be non attached to everything.....
ryan abe and i went into the village to get food and ended up walking
up on a huge cloud of green gas, bloody people laying on the ground
everywhere, a bike was totally destroyed and another was severely
damaged... then army, cops, medics started to swarm the place..... for
such small touristed place i was supprised to see that a bomb had went
off here............ i suppose the golden triangle (burma, thailand,
laos) is a pretty unstable border and it is very close.... what was
weird is about half way through the whole ordeal a cop came around
with a bull horn saying it was a demonstration (fooled you again
huh?)... we totally thought it was real for a peroid of time though...
we got pictures and everything...
we then went to get the best north indian food i have EVER had..... it
was bloody fucking amazing!! the palak paner was one of my favorite
curries i have ever had...
the rest of the afternoon/evening was comprised of finding a motor
bike to rent... yes they allow people to rent full on manual bikes
without ever having ridden one before........ in the states you have
to have a full motor cycle liscence....... yay for personal
responsibility
there was a party at the bungalow when we got back so we hung around
for a while i talked to to ryan for quite a bit and we got one of the
best sleeps either of us have had since we have been in
thailand...........................
we awoke to a beautiful landscape and a bad latte (i skipped the
latte)...... this place is by far the most beautiful place in
thailand... the hills and valleys and rice fields... we booked our
train tickets and our room on koh phan ghon (which is where the full
moon party is). this was a step in the right direction...... we are
going to stay up here till mon.... i really like this place.. it is
absolutely beautiful.... the town is a little trendy for my tastes...
although it is still very nice...
anyways, we started the morning off by making travel accomidations for
getting down to (and having shelter) koh phan pgan. this took far
longer than i would have hoped and was quite a bit more expensive.. oh
well
we continued the day by eating some good pad thai and riding to the
pai canyon.... this was by far the most beautiful landscape i have
seen while in thailand. the land scape here is absolutely fucking
amazing!!!!
it still amuses me that you can rent a bike in thailand haivng no
experience with a bike nor driving on the left side of the road.......
the left side of the road thing is pretty easy i just try and think
about it as if i am driving in the fast lane all the time... on the
drive abe and i spun out... it was at a low speed so we were ok but it
was kinda freaky.... abe was stopping and i was leaning into the curve
(thinking we were gonna take it) the bike just came out from under
us... it sustained some minor damage, abe got a scratch...... it was
definitely interesting......
i got the chance to see a traditional thai school kid ensemble...... i
soak this stuff up..... i am exposed to way too much bad american
covers constantly here...... its actually kinda sad..... cultural
imperialism.......... whats worse is all the white people really like
it...... i think that it makes them feel comfortable... i dont like it
at all......
we are "out on the town" at the moment........ it was boring cause i
dont drink so we left to go walk around but this place closes up
pretty early....... we listened to a band for a bit... the first song
was good........ then they broke out into a walking bass line and did
some blues improv........... god i hate the blues.... we left after
that......
i despite my warm welcome here dont like it quite as much (still
gorgeous though which makes up for it)..... now that i have spent a
day and a half here.........................i have learned so much on
this trip already but feel like i learn much slower here because of
its total western orientation..... oh well...... the landscape is
still fucking amazing.......
i am totally tired at this point....... i'll be sure to mention it in
a less discrete way if i run into any prostitutes tonight.......
