La Taberna Encantada

Intro to La Taberna Encantada Edit Section - Madrid Restaurant : La Taberna Encantada

Worth the walk off the beaten path, La Taberna Encantada is a hidden treasure, even if its name ("The Enchanted Tavern") suggests a bavarian theme park more than Spanish charm.  Come inside, admire the Beatles photos and wine-rack stone arches over the bar, put some Parliament on the jukebox, and saddle up to the bar to order dirt-cheap cocktails (4.50euros) or Caldo de Cocido (hot soup broth served in a wine glass, 1.20euros).  Free jazz Sundays 6-8pm.

The cooking is excelent, really Spanish home-made food.
Try Salmorejo and Ox Tail. Gorgeous.
The façade of the bar is old, from 1910, with the grille plenty of flowers. One of the few from begining of the past century which are left in Madrid.
