| Apparently the surf gods have spoken, and together, with the minister of Australian propaganda and salty swells, have dubbed this point break, the alpha and the omega of surf spots. Sick waves, cranking lefts, and a heterogeneous gaggle of eye-candy clad in skimpy bikinis, knee-length boardies and decked out in silly sunnies, make this a vacation for the sport and the surf. While the name may exaggerate the intensity of the surf scene, and Surfer's can't really compete with the waves at Northshore and up in Indo, but this is still a great little beach town. A definite stop on the Gold Coast excursion which will fill your drive from Sydney up to Brisbane, Surfer's is a hopping beach dominated by a promenade and highrise apartment buildings. Before coating the cleavage of your toes with white sands, be sure to purchase a variety of the following beach kit to look more local: RVCA, REEF, Hurley, Quiksilver, Lost, Mada, Rusty, and Ezekiel.
The Nerang river meanders in a loopy stretch through town, creating a narrow spit of sandy land caught between the river and the Coral Sea. The city's main throughofaire Cavill Mall, (think the Smithsonian Mall not the Banana Republic Mall) provides a pleasant pedestrian strolly zone, chock-o-block full of souvenir shops, surf gear, clothing boutiques, and boozy bars. Adjacent beaches to the north and south are more rustic and less crowded, less commercial. If you don't want to deal with the glitz and the coutre, just head south to unadulterated stretches of Broad Beach, Miami, Burliegh, Nobbys all the way down to Coolangatta.
