Introduction to Belmopan
Belmopan is one of the larger cities in Belize, located smack in the middle, but that doesn't mean that it is at all large. It's a hot, rather dusty and muggy little town, not very attractive at first glance, but having nonetheless a few gems that do it some justice: a large outdoor market selling fruits and vegetables and tacos, and, in the spring, a fun outdoor fair with rides and candy that draws people from miles around. Spanish is much more prevalent here, and tourists are not nearly so looked after as in other places. A more palatable destination, San Ignacio, is less than an hour away.
