| Internet access is available, if not plentiful. A few sandy, beach-housey locations can boast internet access along with everything else - usually this means cafe, restaurant, bar, inn, and tour guide outfitter. You probably won't feel the need for internet, however, unless you really want to describe the luscious tropical life to your friends back home, since time slows down to a slow, dreamy, ninety-five degree drip here, and sometimes it's all you can do to walk to the ice cream shop.

There are three ways to get to Placencia: rental car, bus, or airplane. If you rent a car (most easily done in Belize City, where you're most likely to fly in from international locations) the drive is long and agonizing, but at the same time well worth it, since that way you get to view Belize from many different angles (though some are pretty upsetting, as the poverty around the country in general is extreme). Buses arrive from relatively nearby cities such as Dangriga a few times a day, but fewer on Sundays, and it's likely that you may have to wait for hours in bus stations, so come prepared. The airport is a red dirt landing strip about the size of a large parking lot and serves a few tiny jets per day flying from Belize City. It may not be comfortable nor feel very safe, but if speed is your goal, it's probably your best bet.

Placencia is tiny, so getting around by foot is easily done. The only reason you might need a car is if you don't want to make too long of a trek to the grocery store in such heat, or, more likely, if you'd like to use Placencia as your home base for mini roadtrips out to inland locations where you can take jungle hikes and see Mayan ruins. If you're staying in a nice hotel, such as The Placencia, chances are there are shuttles that will take you where you want to go. If all you want to do is see what there is to see out on the water or even inland, you're pretty much guaranteed a tour guide based in Placencia that will be able to offer you all the transportation that is needed by bus or by boat.
