Grand Popo is a beach town. The town is especially relaxed for a tourist destination in West Africa, the locals won't hassle you and pressure you to buy silly things. The beach is stunning... it's clean (gasp!) You could spend many days here in the shade of coconut groves, just watching the waves. Swimming is a little hazardous since the undertow is at its strongest at this stretch of the coast.

There is a range of accommodation available. You may prefer the tourist hotel with beach side lounge bar and swimming pool to camping with a bottle of local hooch... but this is a personal choice (and either will be graciously accommodated).

Out of all the places in the world, Finland decided to build a Finnish-Beninese Cultural Center in Grand Popo. It is a retreat for artists who come here on a grant paid by the Finnish government. On Friday nights they show African and American B movies on a huge screen in the courtyard.
