Yaounde is the capital of Cameroon. The city rests nestled in a hilly, forested and agricultural region of the country. It is surrounded by the mines of some of the biggest mining companies in the world; by the cocoa, banana and plantain farms of the some of the biggest agricultural companies in the world; and by rubber plantations that remind visitors of Africa's capital worth to colonial powers. Yaounde was founded by the german colonial administration before the french and english split the whole country up messily and took over different parts of the colony during the World Wars. For the germans, we can thank the incredible diversity of beer at Yaounde's favorite dancing spots. For the french, we can thank for the croissants you will find at your local bakery. For the english, well... the fact that you can speak english and almost everyone will understand you.

Unlike Douala, Yaounde is scenic, relatively safe and pleasant to explore. The many neighborhoods of town cascade down the hill sides, the government buildings are impressive and the market spreads from the center to practically every street corner.
