Prague is the capitol and largest city in the Czech Republic. The city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and for good reason: here you can find medieval sites like the ornate and intricate Astronomical Clock and the awe-inspiring Prague Castle, where rulers from the Holy Roman Empire to the current Czech Republic have held their offices. But Prague is certainly not stuck in the past. The ultra-modern "Dancing House" is one of the city's stunning pieces of new architecture, and Bohemian culture and nightlife still flourishes like nowhere else.

Reviews for Prague

Prague was the absolute highlight of my trip through Europe's big cities.  Vibrant yet teeming with history, Prague survives as a jewel of European architecture, culture, and personality.  The city just seemed so alive, from its fifteenth century winding streets that beckon you to get lost to its "Dancing House," a modern architectural masterpiece that actually looks like its in the throes of dancing.  Prague itself too danced before my eyes, its medieval castle rising above the square where just under two decades ago Prague's people gathered to pull the country from the grip of communism.  Historically enchanting yet painfully real, Prague shines.

One of the deepest joy in life is to discover a great new city, and Prague is one for me. My first day there seemed as rich as a week's vacation,  staying at one of the nice hotels in Prague which I booked using http://www.prague-hotels.org.uk/ site and having dinner past midnight and walking through rainy streets crowded with young people, hearing Irish and British and French and German and American voices as well as Czech. This place has a New York-like energy, probably more so than Chicago or London, but the energy takes place within a labyrinth of centuries-old narrow Gothic streets, with more shops on them than I've ever seen anywhere. There's a perfumerie on every block, it seems, and the density of cafes, beer pubs, restaurants, and sweet shops -- all of them overlapping in function -- far exceeds that.
