Glitzy Cannes stretches out on the Riviera like an heiress on a chez lounge. Cannes is probably most famous for the annual Hollywood escape and escapade that is the Cannes International Film Festival. This city located in the south of France on the French Riviera is both a cultural and entertainment hot-spot and an independent commune (a low level administrative block of the larger French Republic). With around 70,000 people, Cannes finds itself ankle deep in silky Mediterranean sands, sheltered under the appropriately described umbrella of the larger 'Nice' aire urbaine. It is a town squarely relaxed in the azure warmth of the Blue Coast (Cote d'Azur). A city deeply passionate the arts, Cannes hosts film, television and music festivals in year round extravaganzas of urbane verve and glamour. Easily accessible at only 25k to the west of Nice, come to Cannes on a Blue line Bus, hop aboard the Marseilles to Italy TGV bullet train, or hail an airport shuttle from Nice international airport. Budget accommodation is limited and the city certainly is known for and caters to an upscale clientele, a population willing and able to pay for privacy and the concurrent luxury it affords. The beaches are soft and mostly public and the city is truly a beehive of who's who especially around the international film festival, practice your red carpet speech and your paparazzi "Paris, Paris!" pater, and star in your own Cannes (pronounced Kan) vacation in May.
