"Hanover your keys, you've had too much to drink." A perfect place to escape from the beer hall brouhahas of Bavaria and the redbull fueled house beats of Berlin, Hanover is a northern German city. Off the tourist heavy German loop, Hanover gives visitors a calming taste of Lower Saxony with a good sized half million person population. This midsized city on the river Leine exudes a comfortably urban, uncrowded type vibe. Hanover hosted the world fair Expo back in 2000, and yes, they are still happy to tell you all about it (spoiler: America didn't bother to send anything, though a McDonald's did feed the visitors). This midsized university town has a student friendly mix of bars, pubs, restaurants and music venues. There are certainly plenty of locales for a youthful night on the town. A world class medical school also continues to attract some of the medical world's sharpest minds, combined with the university, Hanover is assured of an academic atmosphere and ambiance. A day spent at the zoo is a pleasant respite from the hectic crowds of more trafficked German cities. The world famous, 80's homecoming dance standard, "Rock You Like a Hurricane" was born from the Scorpions, a local Hanoverian band that made it big time. The charming university town of Gottingen is a nearby daytripping option, try a train ride to this proximate treat, bring your I-pod and catch up on your inner hair band, and when the conductor asks you for your eurorail pass just sing him this:It's early morning the sun comes out, Last night was shaking, and pretty loud...here I am, rock you like a hurricane." If that doesn't impress, just show him your ticket.
