The nightlife in Leipzig is concentrated in the Altstadt. Here people tend socialize in one of two ways. An older and somewhat mellower crowd sits outside and drinks at the bars and cafes, especially in the Barfussgaesschen, an alley just off the Markt. Or, alternately, they head off to burn some calories in the discos and clubs. Leipzig does both pretty well.

There are a few nightlife spots south of the Altstadt for the more adventurous.

This club is really popular with the college students. The environment is unique. It's in a series of medieval tunnels that the students have turned into bars and dancefloors. The vaulted, exposed brick caverns are a pretty fun place to do your drinking. And for those that dance, there are at least a three rooms dedicated to that.

This "cafe" is actually a 3-story club that surrounds a large courtyard on all sides. The entrance snakes around an busted elevator shaft and the entire place is bathed in red light.
