Iceland is a sparsely populated and ruggedly beautiful island. It was originally settled by Scandinavians in the 10th century and now has barely 300,000 residents. About 10% of the island is glaciated, and it has four national parks.

Iceland is also incredibly hip though. It's the original home of Bjork and the nightlife in Reykjavik won't disappoint.
