New Delhi is a city within the amalgamated metropolis of Delhi, India.  The subcontinent's second biggest city, the denizens of Delhi are historically varied, as is the architecture, stacked outwards from the urban swell into the splashing yawn of the Yamuna river.  A traditional center of trade and commerce, the Mughal empire utilized this northern outpost to broker deals from the Yamuna- down to the alluvial planes in the Indo-Gangetic lowlands.  A city of striking historicultural influence, visitors should expect a slew of architectural styles.  The world's tallest brick minaret, the Qutub Minar, pierces the terra cotta clouds, and in the Old City the Mughal's stamp is cast in the red sandstone and moated relief of Shah Jahan's royal palace.  Visitors should check out the swarm of activity around Paharganj a backpacker friendly conglomerate of inexpensive youth hostels, eateries, and travel information.  Less touristed tracks are calmer and more authentic, while spendier appointments are also available should you chose to avail yourself of the trail dust.
