Italy is an extremely popular travel destination and for good reason. It is, in many respects, your one-stop shop for a cultural history of the West. It can be hard to keep track of what civilization or movement's monuments you're admiring: Etruscan, Roman, Byzantine, Renaissance, Baroque--it's all here. If you're into sight-seeing, from impressive cathedrals to pigeon-filled piazzas to awe-inspiring art museums, Italy will not disappoint. But Italy also has a subtler--and equally powerful--everyday charm. The leisurely multi-course meals, the cafes, vespas and gelaterias, and the exuberant and lyrical language all make Italy well worth a stop even for those who don't want a history lesson. Italy tops the charts in all things gastronomical: Italian wine, pasta, pizza, specialty meats, and cheeses (fresh Parmesan from Parma, for instance) leave even the most discerning Epicurean satisfied. And, except perhaps during the highest tourist seasons in travel hotspots like Venice and Rome, Italian natives are a very warm and welcoming bunch, eager to help and quick to smile, even if you don't know the language. |

I've taken numerous vacations there and have usually rented a self catering villa as it offers the best value for money accommodation option for groups. If you are planning a vacation this is the company that we used for villa rentals - Quality Villas Italy. | |
