Introduction to Rome Edit Section - Rome Travel Guide - Hotels & Restaurants

When in Rome, do what the Romans do. This is a rather tricky concept to follow, since in all actuality, this city has nothing but everything to do, and the Romans don't do everything in a week. That is up to you.  The city lies in ruins, rises in modern architecture, and dissolves in rolling green hills. Getting the best of everything Europe has to offer, Rome is the eclectic, misbehaved teenager who has seen too much to be told what to do. If you travel to Rome to see St. Peter's and the Sistine Chapel, good for you...but you are missing out.  If you travel to Rome for the leather and shoes, equally good for you. Again, you are missing out. Travel to Rome for everything...the Colosseum, the shops, the churches, the plazas filled with loud chattering internationals and locals, the little wine shops that sell gallons for less than $5, the labyrinthine streets that yawn open into amphitheater views, and wide, wide streets home to a simultaneously buzzing and laid back energy.  You will feel a pulsing that sends the sleepy, ancient musings of any old European city to shame and to slumber in your former desires to travel. While the monuments are beautiful, the happenings outside of old buildings are well worth the trip to something other than designated tourist attractions. Wander wander wander and Rome will give you beautiful random gifts in return.
