Introduction to Kobe
You know a lot more about Kobe than you might realize. Maybe you've heard of heavenly Kobe beef. Marbled decadence. Kobe cows are hand-fed lobster and beer. Jealous yet? That's just the beginning...To soothe digestion and to ensure that the calorie rich nutrients are sufficiently spread throughout the beatified beef, a team of small, white-gloved Japanese elders massage the cow as it digests the rich, luxurious meals. It's kosher Kobe-style, a ritualized sacrifice unto the gods of gourmet. Maybe you've heard of Kobe Bryant, also well known for top-grade athletic prowess, as well as for receiving massages and sensuous meals from the desk staff at hotels. However you look at it, Kobe is synonymous with quality, it's a name with a particularly platinum pedigree, and sometimes a certain
cause célèbre
caliber. Kobe, Japan is a treasure trove. One of Japan's most important ports, it was the first major city to open itself to foreign residents, and it quickly became and remains Japan's most brazenly cosmopolitan capitol, with citizens hailing from more than 100 nations. The city suffered enormous damage from a 1995 earthquake but is not marred by this catastrophe, the city is rebuilt, vibrant, thriving and at the top of its game, Japan, like the NBA, just wouldn't be the same without Kobe.
