| | Seen from space, an airplane, or even a high plateau overlooking the valley, Lake Nakuru National Park is a picturesque panache of pink flamingos, grassy fields, and blue mountains. Up close the 'Trials of Life' are more evident. Ash black storks, lurch around the periphery, singling out young and sick flamingos, separating them from the flock and piercing the panicked pinklings with their razor sharp and narrow beaks. A circle of dark sentinels dining over the crimson- splashed rose of the newly deceased water bird. It is a scene vaguely reminiscent of the vultures from Disney's Robin Hood, only these aggressive carnivorous storks don't wait for death to deliver dinner. Visitors come to Lake Nakuru national park for the animals, and they will find them in droves. Hyenas, monkeys, rhinoceroses, baboons, impalas, zebras, and of course, pink flamingos, it's a grassland menagerie, the eco-sphere neatly orbiting the lake, a magnet for the wild game. The alkaline lake is in a unique bio-sphere, a blend of animals and marshland, woods, and rocky promontories. The lake is also a favorite working- vacation spot for mosquitoes, so make sure to take your malaria medication before hitting the trail. |

It is an important town in Kenya's history having been the home of the first and second presidents of Kenya. Apart from Lake Nakuru, there are other favourite places that one can visit. These include Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria in the neighbouring Baringo district. There, one can see other interesting features such as hot springs and a whole host of birds. These can be very appealling especially to birdwatchers. One can see herons, water birds, etc. The also have very nice camping sites for adventure lovers.
