Locals will tell you, San Miguel is full of restaurants and many of them are just for tourists.  Many of these serve international food to cater to traveler's tastes.  What many of them offer, even when they don't offer the tastiest food, is a very flashy, or fancy environment -- perfect for picture taking (at least).  Here are a few good spots to enjoy a nice meal.

 
Tio Lucas
This is the spot for meat in San Miguel de Allende. You can smell the meat cooking from a couple of blocks away and just about every time you go, Max, the friendly owner will greet you. Somehow, he will manage to make you feel like you are extremely welcome, like he's looking after your experience. He'll recommend the meats and brag about the Cesar salad, another classic of the restaurant. ...
 
El Pegaso
This is a great spot for a casual breakfast or lunch. Locals and visitors love it. They offer dishes like Eggs Benedict and sandwiches. But there are also Mexican offerings. On a recent visit I enjoyed some great chilaquiles. And the pie is great. (Take a look at the picture of the pie menu!) The picture of the guitar is also from here. Santiago Barbacoa
Ok, so it's not actually in San Miguel de Allende, but just outside of San Miguel -- on the Mexico City - Queretaro Freeway -- in San Juan del Rio, you will find tons of restaurants serving up carnitas and barbacoa, local specialties. Barbacoa can be a variety of different meats but at Barbacoa Santiago, the barbacoa is made from sheep. Here it is served soft and flavorful, wrapped in maguey...
 
Harry's New Orleans Cafe & Oyster Bar
This is a fun place to take a break from the sight seeing and stop in for a drink and a chat (local guides say this is a place where you can make as much noise as you want). The food is fine, but drinks are accompanied by a small basket of popcorn (with a light chile powdering) and that's about all you need. There's also live jazz on Tuesdays - Thursdays and on Sunday evenings.
