A popular destination for travellers, Nelson offers plenty of sun, great beaches, and is the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. Activites abound in this region, from the tranquil to the extreme.

Those looking for relaxing activites need go no further than the city center, where numerous art galleries vie with cafés for attention. Plenty of gardens (Botanic Gardens, Gardens of the World, Isle Park Gardens) provide peaceful environment for a quiet stroll.

Further afield, there is kayaking, rock climbing, paragliding, and skydiving. Not to mention 4WD adventures, horse treks, and mountain biking.

McCashin’s Brewery and Malthouse
Also known as Mac’s, this brewery is the source of many Nelsonites favorite beer, a dark ale called Black Mac. About 6 kms south of Nelson (the Stoke Loop Bus runs past it), Stop in for a tasting at the bar or plan on taking a tour of the facilities at 11 am or 2 pm.
 
Nelson Market
Every weekend, the dreary carpark in Montgomery Square comes to life. Local vendors arrive early, setting up stalls selling organic produce, arts, and crafts. By 9 am, the place is awash with people. On Saturdays, it is primarily a farmers market and on Sundays, a flea market.
