Introduction to Zinder Edit Section - Zinder Travel Guide

Zinder is a dusty town in the middle of seemingly endless plains of Sahel, sand and shrubbery. To travel there from Niamey or Agadez by car encourages deep thought. It makes one realize the heroism of ancient camel caravans sailing their loads across some of the harshest environments on earth. Your mind will be blown away when you actually see one of these caravans tromping on the side of the road.

Zinder represents a border in more ways than one. It stands between desert and Sahel, solitude and civilization. For this reason, it has been a commercial capital for the region for centuries and was even the capital of the French territory before Niamey was founded. Zinder is not far from the Nigerian border. At the market, this is obvious by the fact that it is flooded by Nigerian goods.

In Zinder, you will find a bank and an Internet cafe. You can also find a cold beer and excellent street food.
