| Artisan market - The prices are a little high here, you can better deals at the two markets in Panama City, but this one is very nice to walk through. You'll find tons of Panama hats, carved and painted wooden figurines, woven Embera baskets, carved wooden trays, jewelry, and molas. There is a better selection on weekends, but plenty to look at on any day. Don't be afraid to bargain - if the vendors hear you speaking English, the price goes up $2 right off the bat. There is also a fruit and vegetable market with great deals and a flower market adjacent.
Jungle Canopy Adventure / Chorro El Macho -- Follow the main road north from town and take the right-hand fork, walk about 3 km, following the signs for Chorro El Macho (The Manly Waterfall). This is a protected rain forest area with a lovely little waterfall. It's about 80 m high, but not too impressive in compairson with the dramatic mountains and trees surrounding it. High rollers will also enjoy the canopy adventure -- for around $40, they will suit you up in a harness and hardhat and send you across ziplines from platform to platform, through the jungle canopy. For $11, you can do just one platform (totally worth it). The staff and guides speak only Spanish, but they are very helpful and friendly.
Pozos Thermales - El Valle's hot springs, a short walk from the center of town, are really a trip. You pay $1.50 for admission, and a little guide leads you to two 5-gallon buckets full of mud (one light colored, one dark) in a nicely-landscaped garden, and he explains how the minerals from the hot springs make this mud very good for your skin. You use a spoon to transfer the mud from the bucket to your hand, and smooth it on evenly over your whole body (wear a bikini). Then sit in the sun till it dries. Then shower off in the natural hot spring shower, and then take a dip in the warm pool. My skin felt ... 10 days younger.
