Romania is a fascinating country in transition.  Geographically, it lies at the eastern edge of Europe beside the Black Sea, south of the Ukraine and east of Hungary.  Along with many soviet republics, Romania overthrew its communist regime in '89 and moved to a democratic republic.  Romania, along with Bulgaria, will be joining the European Union in 2007.
